History Graduate Students Selected as 2021 Mellon Public Scholars

The History department is proud to announce that the Davis Humanities Institute has selected two History graduate students, Brianna Tafolla Riviere and David Morales, to join the 2021 cohort of Mellon Public Scholars.

This program introduces graduate students to the practice of engaging with members of a public through their scholarship. Tafolla Riviere and Morales will take part in an interdisciplinary seminar during this spring quarter and then spend the summer carrying out a project in collaboration with community partners and a faculty mentor. Their projects will be:

  • David Morales: Center for Sacramento History, Racialized Policing in the CA Gold Rush
  • Brianna Tafolla Riviere: California State Parks, Developing California Native American Walking Tours at Marshall Gold State Historic Park and Sutter's Fort State Historic Park
