The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
COUNSELING SERVICES
UC Davis Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) offers students mental health Crisis Consultation Services during business hours by calling 530-752-0871 or coming into the Acute Care Clinic at the Student Health and Wellness Center.
New Students
Sponsored by Graduate Studies, Aggie 201 is an online orientation platform that provides a resource and services overview for new graduate students. There are numerous resources to help keep you on track and enrich your graduate education experience. Graduate Studies has compiled a helpful resource guide.
International Students
Services for International Students and Scholars (SISS) serves approximately 8,000 UC Davis international students from all over the world. One of the most important roles for SISS is to assist international students in obtaining and maintaining the appropriate legal status and employment authorization. Health Insurance
All UC Davis students are required to have health insurance. In order to satisfy this requirement, all registered students are automatically enrolled in the University of California Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP).
If you have already have comparable insurance coverage, and do not wish to be enrolled in UC SHIP, you must apply for a UC SHIP waiver by the posted waiver deadline date. A new waiver application must be submitted each academic year.
Academic Student Employment
Admitted graduate students typically receive departmental funding through a combination of academic student employment and fellowships. History’s ASE positions typically include Teaching Assistant (TA) positions and Course Reader positions, and positions include full coverage of fees and student health insurance (note that non-resident tuition is not covered). GradSphere
Graduate Studies' new software platform, GradSphere, makes it easier for students to file forms electronically. You can keep track of the status of administrative forms (filed by you or the History graduate coordinator on your behalf, depending on the form) in a web-based platform available here. Fellowships and Awards

The disbursement schedule for fellowship stipends (the dates by which you will receive the funds in your bank account) can be found here. Emergency Funds
Emergency Grants: The Graduate Studies Emergency Grant Program provides support for graduate students experiencing unexpected challenges that impede their progress toward their degrees. Examples include health emergencies, family emergencies such as death in the family, natural disasters and others. See application here. Basic Needs Center
The Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center is a comfortable space for students to build community and learn about basic needs resources, pick up fresh fruits and vegetables, receive CalFresh enrollment assistance, and help finding stable housing.
Professional Development
The Graduate Pathways Institute (GPI) assists in making the most of the myriad of career opportunities available to you, by complementing your academic training by building professional skills such as strong communication, strategic planning, and leadership. The GPI is located on the 1st floor of the Graduate Center in Walker Hall.
Facilities & IT
Each graduate student in History is assigned an annual quota (from July 1 to June 30) of $29.25 (1500 pages) for printing. Printing policies can be found here. For TAs that need exam copies, relevant information can be found here under the “Copies” section. Note that students do not need to use their personal quota for employment-related copying and printing. For IT related issues, the L&S IT help desk is available at [email protected] (emailing this address will start a service ticket).
Student Rights and Judicial Support
The Office of Student Support and Judicial Affairs (OSSJA) supports the university's educational mission by upholding standards of academic honesty and responsible behavior, promoting student development, and assisting students in need.
