The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

COUNSELING SERVICES

UC Davis Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) offers students mental health Crisis Consultation Services during business hours by calling 530-752-0871 or coming into the Acute Care Clinic at the Student Health and Wellness Center.

GradSphere

Graduate Studies' new software platform, GradSphere, makes it easier for students to file forms electronically. You can keep track of the status of administrative forms (filed by you or the History graduate coordinator on your behalf, depending on the form) in a web-based platform available here.

Professional Development

The Graduate Pathways Institute (GPI) assists in making the most of the myriad of career opportunities available to you, by complementing your academic training by building professional skills such as strong communication, strategic planning, and leadership.

The GPI offers enhanced development opportunities through its programming and through its partnerships with campus content experts. The GPI is located on the 1st floor of the Graduate Center in Walker Hall.

Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center

The Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center is a comfortable space for students to build community and learn about basic needs resources, pick up fresh fruits and vegetables, receive CalFresh enrollment assistance, and help finding stable housing.

Academic Student Employment

Admitted graduate students typically receive departmental funding through a combination of academic student employment and fellowships. (Available funding is contingent on changes made by the Administration of the University of California, Davis and/or UC Regents based on action by the federal and/or state government.) History’s ASE positions typically include Teaching Assistant (TA) positions and Course Reader positions.  Students earn a salary, and if positions are 25 to 50% FTE, have all or part of their fees paid as a benefit.

For more information on eligibility and benefits, refer to Graduate Studies ASE page The Center for Education Effectiveness offers resources to support and promote effective learning, and offers consultations, workshops, and a yearly TA Orientation (mandatory for incoming History PhDs).

Student Rights and Judicial Support

The Office of Student Support and Judicial Affairs (OSSJA) supports the university's educational mission by upholding standards of academic honesty and responsible behavior, promoting student development, and assisting students in need. UC Davis students have a variety of rights and responsibilities as members of the campus community.

Students experiencing a temporary shortage of funds may request an Emergency and/or Short-Term Loan. Application and eligibility information can be found here.

Fellowships and Awards

You can find information on History-related departmental awards, campus fellowships, and external funding at https://history.ucdavis.edu/awards-and-fellowships. The disbursement schedule for fellowship stipends (the dates by which you will receive the funds in your bank account) can be found here. For general funding information, consult the graduate section of the campus financial aid office.

Facilities & IT

Each graduate student in History is assigned an annual quota (from July 1 to June 30) of $29.25 (1500 pages) for printing. Printing policies can be found here.

For TAs that need exam copies, relevant information can be found here under the “Copies” section. Note that students do not need to use their personal quota for employment-related copying and printing.

For IT related issues, the L&S IT help desk is available at lshelp@ucdavis.edu (emailing this address will start a service ticket).
