About

Omari Averette-Phillips is a Ph.D. Candidate in History and African American Studies. His research analyzes solidarity and class consciousness through the intersections of race, gender, politics, and labor in the U.S. South during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Omari is a council member on the Society for Civil War Historians’ Graduate Council, a member of the OAH Graduate Student Committee, the Managing Editor for Clio and the Contemporary’s “Surviving Graduate School” section, a Lecturer at California State University - Chico, and one of the hosts of “New Books in African American Studies,” a podcast on the New Books Network.
