I am pursuing my second career in American history. My research interests include the history of the American West, race and ethnicity, immigration history, the Chinese diaspora, and Asian American history. Drawing on a wide range of source materials including fresh Chinese-language documents, my dissertation tells the story of early Chinese merchants in the rural communities of California during the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
