Leigh Publishes Article Based on HIS 203 Project

PhD candidate Devin Leigh recently published an article in the journal Slavery & Abolition: A Journal of Slave and Post-Slave Studies. The article is called “The origins of a source: Edward Long, Coromantee slave revolts, and The History of Jamaica.” It explores how a white Jamaican planter from the eighteenth-century developed knowledge of Africans from the region of Ghana, and then repurposed and deployed that knowledge in the abolitionist debates that were beginning in Britain. This article was a revised version of Devin’s HIS 203 project, the product of a year long graduate research seminar completed by all second year graduate students in History at UC Davis.
