Donor Helps Doctoral Student in History Travel for Research

Thanks to the generosity of annual contributions by Kathryn Reed Smith, widow of professor emeritus of history Wilson Smith, doctoral student Genesis Lara traveled to the Dominican Republic this summer to conduct research for her dissertation in history. Smith established the Reed-Smith Travel Research Award through the Philip D. Reed Foundation to support graduate students studying history. Lara, who gathered information from the Dominican Republic's archives and interviewed scholars on the island, said the trip "helped to shape and transform ideas that I've been struggling and thinking through for years now." Make a gift to the Reed-Smith Travel Research Fund to help other graduate students engage in research around the globe.
