Presentation by Marissa Mika (UC-Berkeley)
On April 22nd, Marissa Mika, a visiting researcher at UC-Berkeley, will join the Cross-Cultural Women's and gender History Consortium, jointly sponsored by the Women and Gender in the World Cluster, to give a presentation entitled "'This is a Ladies Unit': Radiotherapy, Technopolitics, and History in Postcolonial Uganda."

What are the techno-politics of radiotherapy? How do they shape the ethical and practical realities of cancer care today in one corner of the Global South? This talk examines a case study of a radiotherapy bunker at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, which catered to 80% female patients. Using gender as a lens of analysis, this lecture investigates a regional history of cancer care.

Refreshments will be served.
