About

Michael Haggerty was born in Florence Alabama, a small city located on the banks of the Tennessee River. As a young adult he moved to Wooster Ohio, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in History from the College of Wooster. Following a short stint as a research and curriculum intern for the National Outdoor Leadership School, Michael returned to history and obtained his master's degree in American History from Miami University (Ohio). Michael's current research focuses on the growth of state power in the Nineteenth Century United States, specifically the development of disciplinary institutions including prisons, workhouses and police forces.
