Application Process

The UC Davis graduate program in history is intended for students who have strong potential and passion for contributing to society in significant ways through teaching, research and writing.

Resources here describe the application process and detail important information regarding qualifications, deadlines, and financial responsibilities and assistance.

Before you apply to this or any doctoral program, familiarize yourself with the faculty to make certain that you can identify one or more professors who specialize in the fields that interest you. UC Davis Department of History faculty members have web pages that summarize their areas of expertise, research, publications, and the professional recognition they have earned. Consider sending an email message to UC Davis faculty members to ask about their approach to graduate education or the topics on which they advise doctoral candidates.

For Fall 2017, the general application deadline  is January 5, 2017. All application materials, including transcript uploads and GRE scores, must be received by February 1.

Download the Graduate Program Handbook or visit the Curriculum page, which may answer some of your questions about the structure or formal requirements of the graduate program.

Also consider asking current graduate students in the Department of History about the doctoral program.
