/ Latin America
Graduate study in Latin American History at UC Davis provides opportunities to develop professional expertise in the broad sweep of the histories of the region that has become known by that label--even as it recognizes the sources of diversity through time, space, and cultures. Particular thematic and sub-regional foci include the Andean Region, greater Mexico (including what is now the U.S. Southwest, connecting with Chicano history and the Borderlands program), Brazil, and the southern cone of South America. Environmental, social and political, and intellectual histories are particular strengths. Students commonly have opportunities to interact with other Latin Americanists on campus through affiliation with the Hemispheric Institute on the Americas.
